Leroy J. Betlach, age 87, of River Falls, died on Monday, Nov. 7, at Grace Health Care in River Falls.
LeRoy John Betlach, age 87, of River Falls, died Monday, Nov. 7, at the Grace Health Care Center, River Falls.
LeRoy was born on Oct. 5, 1924, in St. Louis, Mo., to John and Mary (Kryzer) Betlach. At the age of 2, LeRoy moved with his family to River Falls. 10 years later, he helped the family move to a farm west of River Falls where he farmed and has lived ever since. LeRoy attended school in River Falls through the 9th grade, where he earned a letter in boxing. Following the 9th grade, he stayed home to work on the farm. On Sept. 12, 1946, he was united in marriage to Helen Yanisch at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth. Together they farmed and raised their family.
LeRoy enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing Euchre. In retirement, he and Helen traveled and enjoyed rock hunting with other members of the St. Croix Valley Rockhound club, which is evident by their extensive rock collection. LeRoy was a past member of the Moose Lodge, serving as governor in 1965.
LeRoy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen Betlach, River Falls; four children: Jeanne (Peter) Bergman, Cottage Grove, Minn.; Gary (Marilyn) Betlach, Darlene MacBride, Wayne (Julie) Betlach, all of River Falls; seven grandchildren, Rachel (Matt) Woehrle, Jenny (Jeremy) Trieb, Lisa (Adam) Flood, John Bergman, Sarah Bergman, Laura MacBride, Katie MacBride; four great-grandchildren, Owen and Esme Flood, Justin and Dylan Woehrle; sister Bernice Krear, River Falls. LeRoy is further survived by several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
His parents; an infant sister; sister Irene Jenson; and brother, Gerald Betlach, preceded him in death.
A memorial service for LeRoy will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Cashman-Hill Funeral Home, River Falls. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service.
